Doryani's Institute is the tier 3 incursion room of Zalatl, Architect of Thaumaturgy.

The room contains a device called Lapidary Lens that "double corrupts" a skill or a support gem. The room also contains Thaumaturgy Vessels containing gems and Gemcutter's PrismGemcutter's PrismStack Size: 20Improves the quality of a gemRight click this item then left click a gem to apply it. The Lapidary Lens, when used, functions as if two Vaal OrbVaal OrbStack Size: 20Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictablyRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again.s were applied at once, which can potentially result in an increase/decrease in gem level or quality or transform it into a Vaal version if possible. It is possible for a gem to have no changes at all.

It is capable of creating, and the only way (other than divination cards) to acquire gems that are two of the following:

• Level 21 (or otherwise 1 level higher than its normal maximum level for Awakened Support Gems/irregular gems)
• (21-23)% Quality
• Vaal version

Mechanics

The Lapidary Lens selects the first outcome (1/4):

• No change
• Change into Vaal version ^{no change if no Vaal version}
• Change in level
  • (1/2) +1 Level ^{maximum 21}
  • (1/2) -1 Level ^{minimum 1}
• Change in quality
  • (10/21) +(1-10) quality ^{maximum 23}
  • (1/21) +0 quality
  • (10/21) -(1-10) quality ^{minimum 0}

Outcomes that exceed the minimum/maximum will be capped in change but does not affect the overall outcome chance.

For the second outcome, the change from the first outcome is discarded and selected between the remaining 3 options (1/3).

If the player does not care about gem level 21, a -1 to level is not necessarily a bad outcome as the gem can still be re-levelled back to 20. Loss of quality and an undesirable vaal/no vaal change are the only "real" brick outcomes.
