King Kaom is a unique boss encountered in Kaom's Stronghold. Defeating him is required for the quest The King of Fury. Kaom is historical figure of Wraeclast, the former king of the Karui. Kaom can be encountered in the The Halls of the Dead as a chieftain after being killed by the player in Act 4.
Lore
King Kaom is a historical figure of Wraeclast, the former king of the Karui. After his defeat at the hands of the player in Act 4, he can be encountered in The Halls of the Dead as the chieftan of the Karui faction.
Kaom was advised by Lavianga, a Karui scholar.

Pre-Wraeclast
Kaom originated as a chieftain of the Ngamahu tribe. He rose to prominence and united the once-nomadic Karui tribes under his rule, becoming the first - and only - king of the Karui. Wielding his axe, the

The Purity Rebellion and the Cataclysm
The Karui were called by High Templar Voll to overthrow General Marceus Lioneye in the outer empire as part of the Purity Rebellion. In return, Voll promised the freedom of many Karui slaves under the then empire. Kaom accepted and led his people to The Coast in Wraeclast using canoes. The battle against Lioneye and his army of Gemlings has been written in The Purity Chronicles Book 3: Fall of a Jade Axe: a batallion of female archers caught Lioneye by suprise. Among these archers was Hyrri, who has studied archery with Voll's finest military tutors. She was of great importance in this battle.[1] When Lioneye fell, Kaom infamously wore his head on his belt.
In-game
After he had conquered Lioneye's Watch the Karui passed through the land with their Canoes. Their stories are preserved on weathered carvings throughout Act 1. These carvings tell of the nightmares they encounter, the undead. Kaom has tried to fight it, praying to his ancestors and eventually received a vision he thought divine, but it was actually from Nightmare.[2] He took a group of warriors and entered the Highgate mines to join the Beast.[3]
After the The Awakening however, more carvings in Kaom's Stronghold reveal the black spirit not only led him and his warriors further into Wraeclast, he was corrupted by Malachai to slaughter his own men as a 'sacrifice'. Kaom and his warriors were sealed inside the mine by Deshret along with the Beast, and his spirit remained trapped there since, forced to fuel the Nightmare for centuries.
After Kaom left, Hyrri led the Karui back to Ngamakanui. She succeeded Kaom as queen.
