Beyond Demons are a type of monster that may invade maps affected by modifiers like Slaying Enemies close together can attract monsters from Beyond this realmMapBeyondLeagueCrafted

The monsters spawn from Beyond Portals.

Mechanics

When a monster is killed in a Beyond-enabled instance, there is a 15% chance for a small red orb to appear on the ground. If four of these appear close to each other (roughly one screen), portals will open, spawning Beyond demons. Once a substantial number of Beyond demons have spawned in the instance, each pack spawned grants a stacking chance for the next pack in that area to be replaced by a boss. Only one Beyond boss can spawn per instance. Once a boss has spawned, Beyond portals will no longer spawn in that instance.

Demons are divided into three factions, and only one faction will spawn in any single instance. These factions are the Pale Scourge, the Flesh Scourge, and the Demonic Scourge.

Beyond is not a core game mechanic and cannot naturally spawn; however, they can spawn in maps altered by Kirac's map device mod, as well as from the passive skill of Atlas Passive Skill Tree. Certain nodes in Delve (Azurite Mine) also contain Beyond encounters. The legacy map mod OtherworldlyOtherworldly

Beyond Bosses

These bosses are referred to as the three Demon Lords by Sister Divinia. Both Divinia and the Last to Die claim that Beidat (and other Pale monsters) are blind and appear capable of communication with humans, and feed off of human fear. K'tash appears to be more of a hivemind for the Demonic faction, whereas Ghorr and the Flesh faction appear to be purely driven by the desire to eat.

Lore

Beyond Demons are interdimensional demons from parallel realities that attempt to enter the player's world. The Nightmare realm of the original Beyond demons has been usurped and replace by the Scourge.

The Order of the Templar and the High Templars were aware of the existence of these demons, but kept information about them locked away in the Forbidden Sanctum and in Forbidden TomeForbidden TomeArea Level: (68-83)Mundus noster cecidit. Daemones ubique sunt. Librum

Lycia, a former Templar turned heretic, came into contact with and formed a pact with Beidat, gaining immortality in exchange for the loss of her humanity, shackling her to the Forbidden Sanctum. Beidat uses Lycia to attempt to create a gateway into Wraeclast.

Chaos and the High Priests of the Vaal also appear to be associated with the Scourge in some way, creating the Blood CrucibleBlood CrucibleThe gateway of flesh, horror unbound,

, a Vaal device capable of transporting a person into the realm of Nightmare.

The Breaker of Oaths also is aware of the presence of the Scourge in the Viridian Wildwood, seemingly diverted there by the powers of the Draíocht, possibly to protect Wraeclast.

The Last to Die states the Scourge were able to break through into Wraeclast in the future of every timeline except one, where they were vanquished by High Templar Venarius.

  • Added a new Atlas Notable Passive to the Fiendish Opulence Beyond Cluster, Demonic Power, which causes you to gain Demonic Power on defeating a Beyond Boss in your Maps. The entrance Passive in this cluster provides 4% chance for your Maps to attract Beyond Demons, and causes Beyond Portals to have 4% increased Merging Radius. The 3 small Passives prior to Demonic Power each cause Beyond Portals in your Maps to have 8% increased Merging Radius.
  • The Scent of Blood Atlas Notable Passive now provides 24% chance for your Maps to attract Beyond Demons (previously 10%). There are now 6 small Passives prior, each providing 8% chance for your Maps to attract Beyond Demons (previously 3 which provided "Beyond Demons in your Maps grant 10% increased Experience").

  • Sextants are removed from the game and replaced by new batch of scarabs, which includes Beyond Scarab
    • Aisling's Research Safehouse reward is now a stash of Beyond Scarabs. This does not apply to Ruthless.
    • Added 3 new Scarab clusters to the Atlas Passive Tree that each have 2 small Passives providing 4% increased Scarabs found in your maps, and 9 Atlas Notable Passives that causes Scarabs in your Map to be 100% more likely to be either Essence, Beyond, Torment, Reliquary, Cartography, Anarchy, Ambush, Harbinger, or Domination Scarabs.

3.22.0
3.19.1
3.19.0
  • Beyond portals now spawn Scourge demons instead of the old Beyond bandits. Demons are still divided into three factions, and only one faction will spawn in any single instance.
  • The base chance for a Beyond portal to spawn when you kill a monster is now fixed at 15%. This means that multiple sources of the Beyond mechanic no longer stack.
  • Spawning a Beyond boss no longer requires killing many Beyond demons close together. Instead, once a substantial number of Beyond demons have spawned in the instance, each pack spawned grants a stacking chance for the next pack in that area to be replaced by a boss. Only one Beyond boss can spawn per instance. Once a boss has spawned, Beyond portals will no longer spawn in that instance.
  • Beyond demons will occasionally drop Tainted Currency items, and Beyond bosses are guaranteed to drop multiple Tainted Currency. Adjustments have been made to the outcome odds for the Tainted Orb of Fusing, Tainted Jeweller's Orb and Tainted Mythic Orb in order for these items to be suitable for core availability.
  • Sextant modifiers that grant Beyond portal chance now grant increased Beyond monster pack size instead of a chance for an additional Beyond monster to spawn.
  • New Beyond monsters do not drop Scourged items.
  • The following changes have been made to the Atlas Passive Tree as a result:
  • The Fiendish Opulence Notable now causes Rare Beyond Demons in your Maps to drop an additional Basic Currency Item (previously a 25% chance). The three small nodes prior that granted 8% increased Quantity of Items dropped by Beyond Demons in your Maps now instead provide 5% increased Quantity of Tainted Currency dropped by Beyond Demons in your Maps.
  • The Scent of Blood Notable no longer grants "Slaying Enemies close together in your Maps has a 3% chance to attract monsters from Beyond". Instead, it now grants 10% chance for your Maps to attract Beyond Demons.
  • The Torn Veil Notable no longer grants "Powerful Beyond Demons require 1 fewer Portal to summon in your Maps". Instead, it now grants "Beyond Portals in your Maps have 30% increased chance to spawn a Unique Boss". The small nodes in the cluster that previously granted "Beyond Portals in your Maps have 5% chance to spawn an additional Beyond Demon" now instead grant "Slaying Enemies in your Maps has a 15% increased chance to spawn a Beyond Portal".
