Essences of Woe can be used to upgrade an equipment with a guaranteed affix related to :

• Maximum Energy Shield
• increased Spell Damage
• Elemental Damage on attack skill

Monsters that possessed by the essence, would Summon Energy Locus that cast Lightning Tendrils.
