Path of Exile Awakening: What Are DIVINATION CARDS? - How Divination Cards Work & Where they Drop

A divination card is a type of item that can be collected to exchange for a reward. There are many different cards, each one dropping in a different part of the game and granting a different reward.

Overview

Divination cards drop from monsters and loot containers. They are stackable, tradeable items that take up 1x1 inventory space. A full set of cards can be vendored to Tasuni in Highgate or Lilly Roth at your hideout in exchange for the item referenced on the card. Each card type drops in specific areas of Wraeclast, so farming said area allows for the player to maximize their chances of obtaining the desired item. Modifiers to quantity (e.g. from the area, the monster, the player) will affect the amount of cards obtained from monsters in zones. Additionally, divination cards are affected by the drop rate penalty. Character level is never considered to be higher than 68 in regards to drop rate penalty, meaning that high level characters (68+) can farm world areas in later acts without severe drop rate penalties. For example if the monster level is 66 there is a 0% drop rate penalty, and in zones with level 56 monsters there is a 25% drop rate penalty.

Interestingly, divination cards that are tabled to specific monsters (rather than areas) appear to have deterministic drop rates, and are not affected by quantity modifiers. To maximize farming these cards, focus should be placed on twinning/duplicating bosses and/or maximizing the number of maps run per hour instead of increasing quantity.

Rewards

Divination cards that award an item whose level depends on the player's level, are capped at item level 80. If a set of divination cards awards a corrupted item, then the corruption effect is guaranteed to be an implicit mod with the exception of maps, which cannot gain implicit mods from corruption.

Version history

Version	Changes
3.17.0	Many divination cards that drop in maps now drop in additional map areas. In most cases their existing drop locations have not changed, and those cases have not been patch noted individually. Atlas reshuffles will mean that some of these locations will not be available in any given league, but checks are in place to ensure that every divination card available in maps always has at least one map present on the Atlas. Drop weightings and minimum area levels for the vast majority of cards have not been changed, but drop weightings for a very small number of cards have been reduced in cases where the number of maps they're available from has greatly increased. A longstanding bug in the code determining area level restrictions for some divination card drops has been fixed. This means that cards intended to have a high area level requirement (mostly ones that grant item level 100 items) will no longer fluctuate wildly in availability from league to league. A small number of cards no longer drop in areas where they used to drop and most of these cards also now have new locations they can drop at.
